Getting Around

Midway Car Rental has a location on Pico Blvd. and Ocean Ave., which is close by. Their rates seem to be competitive to the major rental car companies, but they have more foreign cars.

StarLine Tours seems to have many tours of Los Angeles, including tours of the stars’ homes and bus trips to theme parks in Southern California. They have pickups at hotels nearby.

The Big Blue Bus is Santa Monica’s bus line. The #2 bus goes right past the house.

Newspapers

The Los Angeles Times is the newspaper of record for Southern California.

The Santa Monica Daily Press is a much smaller newspaper, but it has quirky, local stories and has event listings too.

Shopping and dining

Main Street, Santa Monica is 2.5 blocks from the house. It has a huge selection of restaurants, shops and others (like manicure places), all of which is listed at this site. The site also contains upcoming events, although it’s not updated as frequently as it might be.

Downtown Santa Monica and the Third Street Promenade also have their own website. Like the Main Street site, this one lists the stores and restaurants and lists upcoming events.

Things to do with children

GoCityKids has a large listing of events and activities for children. The site is for all of Los Angeles, but it is possible to narrow your search to Santa Monica.

Santa Monica has a complete listing of its parks as well as regular activities at the libraries in town.
